how to change sims 4 language

Hello again,

The following is a quick tutorial on how to change the in-game display language in RELOADED's/Games4theworld's version of The Sims 4. Note that I am referring here only to the cracked versions of the game. If you have a purchased copy of the game on Origin, this procedure here will NOT work for you, however, you can have a look at the old topic here to learn how to change the registry.

As of the patch version 1.20.60.1020 (see the announcement) the system which handles the in-game display language in The Sims 4 has been changed. It is now no longer sufficient (seemingly) to edit the registry. However, changing the in-game display language is now easier too.

Navigate to where you installed your The Sims 4 to, and then navigate under Game\Bin\RldOrigin.ini. The following screenshot is from my own system.

Once you open the file (with e.g. Notepad; by default it should open though simply by double-clicking on it), look at the line "Language". If you look very carefully you will notice a SEMICOLON (

; ) right at the beginning of the line. In this screenshot, the red arrow that I put means the language system is de-activated.

Now, if you remove the SEMICOLON, you will "activate" the system. Thereby the game will load the language code next to "Language". The green arrow here shows the line with the semicolon removed.

When you exit the text file, don't forget to SAVE the changes !

Now...in my example I used English as the display language. If you look at the line below "Languages" in those text files, it shows the possible language codes. Which are.

cs_CZ = Czech
da_DK = Danish
de_DE = German
en_US = US English
es_ES = Spanish (Spain)
fi_FI   = Finnish
fr_FR = French (France)
it_IT = Italian
ja_JP = Japanese
ko_KR = Korean
nl_NL = Dutch
no_NO = Norwegian
pl_PL = Polish
pt_BR = Portuguese (Brazil)
ru_RU = Russian
sv_SE = Swedish
zh_TW = Chinese (Traditional)

Use the appropriate code next to "Language", and again, don't forget to save the changes to the text file at the end. You can easily do so by clicking on "File" in the top left, and then "Save".

After you changed the language, make sure to right-click on your .exe file and choose "run as Administrator". You should only have to do this the first time though, after changing the language. Also keep in mind that the language change will be applied to both 32-bit and 64-bit executables, so it doesn't matter for the language change whether you start the game with the TS4.exe or the TS4_x64.exe.

One final note: in some languages you will have a new username folder with a different name, meaning if you just change the language in the above way, any old savefiles or mods/CC you may have had won't show up initially. In my experiment, I originally had the language in English. I then tested the Spanish language and noticed that a new folder is created under C:\Users\(my username)\Documents\Electronic Arts. It is the folder "Los Sims 4".

You must copy all contents from your old username folder, and paste them into your newly-created folder. In my example, if you had your original language in English, and you switched to Spanish now, then copy all contents inside "The Sims 4" and paste them into "Los Sims 4". You can also move the stuff too, without copying/pasting, of course.

In some cases though, no new username folder is created. I also tested Portuguese (Brazil), and in that case it seems that the username folder is still called "The Sims 4", after the language change. Despite the technically correct translation being "Os Sims 4". I suspect that due to marketing reasons, some regions use the term "The Sims 4" rather than the expression in their own language, but that is not the point of the topic here.

That should do for now - good luck if you want to do the same procedure ! Smile

//EDIT

Update on 05-09-2016 . Due to requests, I have compiled a folder that contains all language text files (RldOrigin.ini). In the link below go to your subfolder with the desired language. Download and then copy/paste the RldOrigin.ini file, to where you installed The Sims 4 to, and specifically into the Game\Bin subdirectory of the game.

For most people that is going to be - again -

C:\Program files (x86)\The Sims 4\Game\Bin .

When prompted, please replace the existing file. Then - for the first time - right-click on your game .exe (or the shortcut) and choose "run as Administrator". You should only have to do this the first time, when putting in a new language file. Smile

Good luck again !

//EDIT

Update on 23-02-2018 . A possible alternative method has been found out by users @anadius1 and @Tarac, which involves changing the registry and then NOT running the game as Administrator (many thanks and credits go to them!). The method is described IN THIS TOPIC. One of the "sub-methods" involves using an automated script, while the other way relies on creating/exporting registry keys in the various different languages.

DO NOT POST ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS IN THIS TOPIC. INSTEAD, PLEASE OPEN A NEW TOPIC IN THE APPROPRIATE FORUM- SECTION, EITHER "THE SIMS 4 DOWNLOADS SUPPORT" OR "THE SIMS 4 IN-GAME SUPPORT"! THANK-YOU-NOTES CAN BE POSTED IN THE APPROPRIATE FORUM-SECTION, or directly under this thread.
